Welcome to Sodium Lights the Horizon
I’ve been on the internet since 1995 and I’ve managed to keep my name off all sites bar Facebook and my employer’s website. This probably won’t change any time soon. The chances are that you don’t know me anyway.
I get paid to build websites for other people, and I specialise in getting websites onto your cell phone. It’s harder than you’d think (if you want to do it right).
When I’m not getting paid you’ll find me here on the net; or driving around for pleasure or family; or renovating houses; or playing with dangerous tools in my workshop. There’s a big pile of wood out there right now that would make a damned fine trebuchet…
While you’re here you may see me mention “GB” – she’s my wife. Steven or TPS is my younger brother – he’s out in Aus building aeroplanes. My grandparents appear frequently in my Journal and are always known as Granny and Pop. Finally in the list of random names are Buffy and Willow, our two cats we got from the wonderful guys at Wood Green Animal Shelter.
So… what other wonders will you find here…?
- My 2nd Rate Photography
- Currently hosted on Flickr and being flooded with photos of my grandparents’ house.
- A (nearly) Up To Date List of Projects
- I’ve always got half a dozen little projects on the go. About half of them get completed. Some of those make it here…
- The Blog
- A weblog in the original sense – this is a log of interesting stuff found on the interwebs.
- The Journal
- In my world, a journal is a kind of online diary. The personal stuff that is probably only of interest to those who know me. You’ll find random wafflings, moans and complaints. Expect lots of swearing and talk about family.
- Wood
- My favourite way of wasting time is to go out to the garage and fire up dangerous powertools. Some of the less blood spattered projects may end up here…
- Four Wheels
- I love cars. I don’t know enough about them, and I’ve not owned that many, but this section is about the cars I’ve owned, driven, lusted after or sworn at. You may also find some cool tech or notes on government in there.
- Web Toys
- These are my personal little projects. They’ll often be unfinished or ugly looking, and they’ll be updated very infrequently. Worth a look every now and again.
- Food
- A collection of “Kitchen Porn”, gadgets and recipes. Here as much for me as for other people, this is where I’ll store all those recipes that I’ve loved and want to try out again.
- PHP / HTML / CSS
- I’ve been writing websites for a living for ten years but I’m still learning the foibles of the myriad browsers out there – especially those on mobile devices. Here you’ll find tricks, tips, gotchas, rants, raves, complaints and requests for help.
- Twitter is my attempt to break the habit of one line micro updates on my journal. You won’t get much of the stereotypical “going to the loo” type updates. You may get weird observations, jokes and complaints.
Finally, everything here is © me unless otherwise stated. If you want to link to stuff, do so. If you want to quote text, go for it. I just ask you don’t copy posts wholesale. If you’re quoting more than a few lines of text you might as well send people here in the first place…
